BIRMINGHAM ALIVE Back to School Rally

The Rickey Smiley Foundation Birmingham Alive Back to School Rally will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 2pm-6pm at Legion Field located at 400 Graymont Ave W, Birmingham, AL 35204. This event is free and open to the general public. Birmingham Alive is a back to school event created to bring families and children together for an afternoon of family entertainment, games and recreational sporting activities. Birmingham Alive will be hosted by Rickey Smiley and the event will prepare children for the new school year by providing free school supplies to the first three hundred school aged children present. Take a Child to the Doctor Day 2015

On Saturday, September 12, 2015, the City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office Division of Youth Services (DYS) will host its annual Take a Child to the Doctor Day event at the YMCA Youth Center located at 2400 7th Avenue N in downtown Birmingham. Designed to serve uninsured and under-insured youth up to 18 years old, this FREE community event will be held from 10 AM until 2 PM. Area youth, accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, can receive health screenings in vision, dental, and general health. The services will be provided by medical staff from Children’s of Alabama, UAB Health System - Department of Pediatrics and Focus First. FREE booster seats are back by popular demand at Doctor Day 2015. Safe Kids Alabama at Children’s of Alabama will be giving away FREE child booster seats for children over 40 lbs up to 100 lbs. To secure a booster seat, your child must be present for proper fitting. DYS Doctor Day highlights: FREE Health Screenings for Youth up to 18 years old FREE Healthy Snacks & Beverages FREE Interactive Games & Prizes Special Prize for FIRST 100 youth Outdoor Play Yard This is not your ordinary trip to the doctor. While the focus is on providing quality health screenings for youth, there will also be something for the whole family. Birmingham! It's time for the 5k to EVOlve! On Saturday, August 22nd, Curtis Starks, founder and owner of EVO Befit, will partner with Children's of Alabama to bring you and the City of Birmingham the first ever EVO 5k Fit Challenge. This is the first 5k of its kind to hit our city. The event will feature your traditional 5k run beginning at 8am followed by 6 waves of exercise obstacles throughout downtown Birmingham.
